Goldenrod
(Solidago Species)
A bill to adopt goldenrod as Nebraska’s state flower was introduced in 1895. Another bill was submitted promoting the violet. The goldenrod won and was adopted on April 4, 1895. There are various species of goldenrods. Many believe Nebraska’s state flower is the late goldenrod. Some people malign goldenrod as a weed. But it is among the most popular of flowers. It is also the state flower of Kentucky, was once the state flower of Alabama, and has been a leading candidate in several other states.
